Standardized Tests
SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) – The SSAT is used for placement in independent or private junior high or high schools. There are two levels of the test: Lower level for students in grades 5-7, and Upper level for students in grades 8-11. For information and to register, go to http://www.ssat.org/
ISEE (Independent School Entrance Examination) – The ISEE is an admissions test for students entering independent schools in grades 5 through 12. There are three levels of the ISEE: Lower level (grades 5-6), Middle level (grades 7-8), and Upper level (grades 9-12). For information and to register, go to http://www.erbtest.org/
HSPT (high school placement test) – The HSPT is an admission test for students currently in grade 8, entering parochial schools in grade 9. For information and to register, go to http://www.ststesting.com/hsptpg9.html
PSAT/ NMSQT – Preliminary SAT used to determine eligibility for National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT is usually administered through high schools in fall of junior year. For information and to register, go to http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/about.html
SAT – College Board standardized test for college admissions. Students usually take the SAT in the winter or spring of junior year, and often again in the fall of senior year. SAT Subject Tests – The College Board offers Subject Tests (formerly called SAT IIs) in a variety of high school subjects. ACT – Standardized achievement examination and alternative to the SAT (if taken with optional Writing section) as primary test for college admissions.
